Montford Pointers Run/Walk/Ruck

Join us on November 9th from 8 AM to 12 PM at the WorldBeat Cultural Center to celebrate the contributions of Black veterans and all veterans of color.

The Montford Point Run/Walk/Ruck is a FREE community event dedicated to honoring veterans of color and commemorating a pivotal moment in U.S. military history. On July 26, 1948, President Truman signed Executive Order 9981, mandating equality of treatment and opportunity for all individuals in the armed forces, regardless of race, color, religion, or national origin. This landmark decision marked a significant step toward racial equality in the military.

The event pays tribute to the first Black Marines who were trained at Montford Point, North Carolina, and who overcame immense challenges and discrimination to serve their country. Known as the Montford Point Marines, these brave individuals paved the way for integration and equality within the armed forces.

Participants can choose to complete one of three distances that symbolize this important historical milestone: 1.948 miles to represent the year the desegregation order was enacted, 4.8 miles to signify the ongoing journey toward equality, or 19.48 km (12.1 miles) to highlight the profound impact and legacy of this movement.

This event is more than just a run; it is a movement to recognize and remember the sacrifices made by these heroes.
